Today Care and the girls were out so my focus was on guess what?....... The bathroom
I was hoping to get a skim coat of plaster on the bathroom wall and hook up the upstairs toilet. I also managed to rescue my chisel from the drain pipe using a makeshift fishing line. I lost it down there a couple of weeks ago when I was taking out the lead drain pipes.
Onto the wall. I re PVA 'd the wall using a 3:1 mixture to make it nice and sticky. I then mixed a half bag of thistle multi finish plaster and proceeded to coat the exposed wall, diligently following some YouTube clips (see below).
The result? better, but not great. I'll need to go over it again later. I essentially learned 3 things: 1) err on the side of wet with wall plaster - the mix dried out too quickly and needed more pressure on application 2) make sure to have a good platform to work from - I wasted too much time navigating the ladder and worked in some awkward positions. I've since ordered a smaller ladder and 3)work in daylight if possible as you need as much natural light as possible to properly see imperfections.
For the toilet, I cut the soil and clean water pipes to length and shimmed the pan - makeshift until I finish tiling the floor. The height was about 10mm off so an offset connection is needed. This was harder to pick up on a Sunday than I expected so I needed to order one online. So overall, some progress but not a lot accomplished - but at least I got my trusty chisel back.
