Day 1629: No power tools on Easter

Apparently there is a verse somewhere in the Bible that forbids power tools on Easter Sunday (or at least according to Carolyn).

So today I had to down tools and postpone all the great projects I had for the day. Instead I decided to do some gardening ..

With the contents of the old shed strewn across the lawn under tarp .. the grass had taken real beating this year. Today I decided to get it back into shape. I did some radical weeding and pruning and cut the grass. Then I planted some seeds and watered them. Nothing like watching grass grow! All done very quietly so not to disturb the Easter bunny or our neighbours or break any commandments etc.

And with all that quiet ... Could I hear the birds, the crickets, the wind blowing through the trees?

No, all I could hear was a powersaw across the road and an impact gun 2 doors down. Obviously these people weren't observing Easter .. or didn't get the memo. Who knows?!

Day 994: Happy Prime Day!

Every year Amazon has a Prime day for members and I'm definitely a frequent shopper. So much so that Amazon wanted to check if I needed to setup a business account. 

Prime Day happened this week and as usual, it presented a great chance to pick up discounted items that you don't actually need. 

Of course I went straight to the DIY section with Bosch ending up as the deals of the day. Next to the Stanley FatMax range, Bosch is my second favourite brand of power tools. My only gripe with Bosch (other than the awful colour choice) is that tools seldom come in proper cases. Wheres most of my FatMax tools have a nice plastic carry case, Bosch just has a cardboard box. Boo!

Today's unnecessary purchases (with my justifications) included:

• A belt sander - guessing I will use this for the stairs
• A hedge trimmer - we do have hedges
• A laser measure - these are cool and I'm sure I'll be measuring something :)  

So there you have it, completely unnecessary purchases. But it's also my birthday, so I can just chalk it up as presents to myself. Another Prime Day over - who knows what I'll buy next year.

Day 628: Bringing out the big tools now

Remember that monster base from the lost column of the Parthenon that I found in the garden? For those with short term memories or casual followers of the blog, click here.

Basically, it was too big to lift into the skip. Too big to do much with at all except roll around the garden squashing bugs and toes, which somehow loses it's appeal pretty quickly.

But with the help of some POWER TOOLS it's time to turn the block into dust (or at least smaller, more manageable pieces)

So, courtesy of our neighbour Scott (great name BTW), I borrowed a jackhammer. A totally unnecessary tool in any DIY'ers toolbox, but is it ever fun to borrow.

Fully assembled now ...

So, with a little bumping and thumping .. the massive slab of concrete was reduced to rubble. Soooo much fun.
